BEARING TEST

Project Description
Marine Bearing Test Stand Project Overview
Roller Bearing Test Stand Project Overview

Ensuring proper performance and durability of any type of rolling-element bearing is critical in order to achieve the desired behavior in the field. An adequate test system is required to mechanically test some of the most critical performance parameters of different designs.

Bearing types:

  • deep groove ball bearing
  • angular contact ball bearing
  • cylindrical roller bearing
  • spherical roller bearing
  • needle roller bearing
  • tapered roller bearing
  • self-aligning ball bearing
  • thrust ball bearing
  • assembly preconditioning
inspection of proper bearing assembly on a macro level, initial break-in of each unit, running in of the seals, etc.

  • rolling friction torque
measurement of friction torque used to determine the dynamic coefficient of friction for a particular bearing type

  • dynamic coefficient of friction
determining the dynamic coefficient of friction of a bearing assembly under various controlled conditions

  • maximum speed
measurement of maximum continuous speed at which the bearing can run

  • axial load capacity
measurement of bearing performance during application of a purely axial load to the outer race

  • radial load capacity
measurement of bearing performance during application of a purely radial load to the outer race

  • combined load capacity
measurement of bearing performance during simultaneous application of both axial and radial loads to the outer race

  • moment load capacity
measurement of bearing performance during application of a moment load to the outer race relative to the inner race

  • lubrication testing
bearing performance measurement using different lubricants around the rolling elements (i.e. grease, oil)

  • over-speed test
destructive testing of bearing assembly at speeds exceeding the maximum rated speed

  • profile execution
cyclic running through various speed profiles with specific acceleration and deceleration rates, replicating application-specific conditions

  • environmental testing
measurement of bearing performance under both temperature extremes, cold testing down to minimum rated temperature, and hot testing up to the maximum rated temperature

  • acoustic noise
measurement of the sound power levels during bearing operation under controlled speed, torque, and temperature
